Mika is a fine artist based in New York City, inspired by the landscapes of her childhood in the beautiful Upper Peninsula—an area famously captured by the Group of Seven. This early connection to the natural world has made landscape a favorite subject for personal expression.
Her creative journey began at home, with classical training in piano and voice, surrounded by the artwork of her talented parents and their collection of contemporary European Impressionist paintings.
Mika earned her BFA in Visual Arts from York University in Canada and went on to build a successful two-decade career in experience-design within New York’s e-commerce and fintech industries. During that time, she also completed her MFA in Design at the School of Visual Arts.
Now, dedicated full-time to painting, Mika works primarily in acrylic on increasingly large-scale canvases. While experienced in oils, she is currently drawn to the immediacy of acrylics, pushing the medium’s ability to modulate the palette and achieve the impressionist, painterly qualities.
